PERFORMANCES

ARTISTIC INTERVENTIONS IN COLLABORATION WITH ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL 2026

participants of A!KO are invited to be part of the first two performances

9–13 SEP 2026 | Hauptplatz Linz

STUDIO PERFORMANCE

11 SEP 2026 | Sonnenstein LOFT

Guided by an international team of choreographers, participants engage in a collaborative choreographic development process that transforms artistic research into short performative interventions. Through mentoring, experimentation and collective creation, dancers explore how movement can become a form of embodied civic imagination. Inspired by the curatorial framework Flood the Zone with Courage, the choreographers lead participants in creating site-responsive works that respond to contemporary social questions through the body. The resulting performances are conceived as participatory interventions that activate public space, invite dialogue and encourage audiences to move from passive observation to active engagement. In this way, choreography becomes not only an artistic practice, but a shared act of courage, imagination and collective action.

STOP REQUEST BUTTON IN THE MOOR'S PAVANE

An experimental work in cooperation with Dance Company Of(f) Verticality

The experimental piece addresses how changes can be made possible in a moment when a body is in full movement. It recalls particles of the narrative in “Moors Pavane” by the American Modern Dancer José Limon, who shows how webs of intrigues and manipulations are set into motion. “Stop Request Button in the Moor's Pavane” engages with possibilities of visionary change and speculates on shifts of directions within a narrative which is both historical and strikingly relevant today.A group of young dancers work on such directional speculations.

In a world increasingly shaped by technology, we are connected faster and more intricately than ever before. Yet more connection does not necessarily bring us closer. As technology begins to take over processes of judgment, and algorithms increasingly shape our choices, emotions and ways of relating to one another, this work returns to a simple question: what remains essentially human? It looks towards the fragile and irreplaceable gestures between us — the act of noticing another, of carrying traces of one another, of staying close, and of choosing not to turn away.

THE STRANGER

SAMSARA OF BLOSSOM

Exploring the Essence of Traditional Korean Aesthetics
Rooted in the Apricot blossom — a symbol of maternal love and the force that gives life — Samsara of Blossom brings Korean philosophy and Joseon court traditions into dialogue with contemporary dance. In an age when technology reshapes what it means to be human, the work asks what we continue to carry across generations: care, memory, and the impulse to sustain life.

Choreography : Kim Yu Mi
Dance : Yoo Yeri, Hwang Minha, Lee Yunha, Son Gio
Videographer : Kim Kihyun

Supported by KOFICE (The Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange)

A!KO TANZ FEST was founded in 2022 marking the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Austria and Korea. The festival’s mission is to present curated international dance works, celebrate the art of dance, and offer audiences a space for connection, dignity, and joy through movement. A!KO also supports emerging dance artists in expanding their reach onto the global stage and fosters inclusive dance experiences that bring people together. As a bridge for international dance exchange rooted in the Linz dance community, A!KO continues to grow through collaborations with global artists and presents diverse dance programs annually in both Austria and Korea, expanding into a larger global community from 2025 on. The festival is supported by tanzhafenFESTIVAL, Redsapata Kulturinitiative, SONNENSTEIN LOFT, Gangwon Arts & Culture Foundation, Arts Council Korea, and operates in strong partnership with CID Vienna Section, Anton Bruckner Private University, and the Rosenberg Dance Festival.
